Position Description

 

 

XLA is looking for a Technical Writer with Underwriting experience, preferred. The Technical Writer will support underwriting operations and communications to ensure artifacts have no spelling, grammatical, or punctuation errors and are precise, concise, and reflect agency values, clear writing, and exemplary professionalism.  The work that the Contractor will perform will be UNCLASSIFIED. It should be noted that a substantial amount of data is considered Personally Identifiable Information and must be treated as such. Responsibilities include:

  • Full-time hands-on Technical Writer with strong technical editing, proofreading, and formatting skills to maintain and support NFIP program and underwriting documents (e.g., Communications of all types, Departmental documents, SOP’s, Manuals or booklets or other reference material, operating forms, FEMA documents, )
  • Identify trends and issues and propose strategies to address them in program documentation.
  • Provide NFIP expertise to support and review documents or language for accuracy, participate in meetings, provide recommendations, etc. with FEMA stakeholders.
  • Support peer reviews and proofreading as required to ensure consistent and accurate information. Gather concurrence from many program offices internally or within FEMA when needed
  • Provide editing support, including a write-editor and a line editor to ensure that the products meet government standards of writing in plain English language and are consistent with GPO Style Manual.
  • Translate complex underwriting technical material or recommendations into simple, clear explanations or instructions.
  • Creating manuals, technical bulletins, and other materials as designated or required, and review material for accuracy and consistency.
  • Support/update underwriting forms (Application, Endorsement, Cancellation forms), as needed
  • Support bilingual (Spanish) materials, as needed
  • Cultivate a quality, service-focused environment that provides FEMA quality products and services.
  • Able to communicate, facilitate and work clearly and concisely with product owners, stakeholders, clients, and other contractors
  • Support FEMA’s goals with a focus on the NFIP world-class service goal with quality, process, and service

Requirements

 

Requirements:

  • Education: BS, in Communications, English, or similar
  • Certification: Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert certification, Microsoft Publisher certification, Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) certifications, or equivalents (preferred)
  • Highly ethical, organized, energetic, creative, passionate, and work well with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with team and client
  • Years of Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Fema flood insurance experience or training is a plus
  • Writing samples will be requested for selected candidates

 

Clearance Requirement: The ability to obtain a FEMA Security Clearance.
