Position Description


XLA is seeking experienced IT System Administrators to support the technology needs of our growing team in support of DHS/ICE. The ideal candidate shall be able to provide help desk for support requests, troubleshoot/diagnose, resolve to completion with proper follow up or escalate when necessary. The selected candidate should have excellent experience with maintaining servers, workstations, network configurations, and other electronic communication devices. The candidate will assist remote and field staff by phone and must have excellent communication skills.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must have experience with Windows Server and Desktop Administration, and VMware Administration
  • Experience monitoring and reporting network usage, troubleshooting network problems
  • Troubleshoot general hardware, software, and network issues
  • Hands-on experience is required, with the ability to configure networking equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills. Take initiative and responsibility in exceeding customer expectations and manage time with competing priorities
  • Assist in the planning, support, and extension of future IT needs
  • Adding computer peripherals and new users, performing system backups and data recovery, resolving LAN/WAN communications problems
  • Making and receiving trouble calls via phone and email to provide assistance to the field resources. Creating and resetting user accounts and troubleshooting workstations in the field remotely
  • Good technical support skills to assist and troubleshoot non-technical users on a variety of operating systems, hardware, devices, software and environments
  • Manage, configure and maintain multi-tiered environment
  • Proactively monitor and address storage and backup alerts
  • Experience with inventory, testing, and shipping of systems
  • Hands-on experience with imaging of desktop computers
  • Performance tuning, configuring and upgrading of backup environment.
  • Assist with system disaster recovery requirements



Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Ability to work independently and also collaboratively with employees within department and across functions
  • IT certifications (CCNA, MCSE, Net+ or A+) a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience required
  • Must be motivated and results oriented
  • Previous Federal Government experience a plus
  • Excellent communication & customer service skills
  • Ability to effectively organize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Reasoning and problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical staff
  • Ability to work in stressful circumstances and handle all types of personalities and levels of authority
  • Desire to learn and implement new technologies
