  • Position Description

    XLA is looking for a Physical Science Technician to support our customer in Miami, FL. The Technician shall be capable of providing administrative support. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Maintains inventory of and cleans/distributes laboratory glassware to various groups within the laboratory.
    • Identifies and selects the appropriate process from many alternatives to adjust or deviate from standard work methods based on situations and conditions in a laboratory or at a field site.
    • Performs data reduction and analysis using mathematical computations, plot charts, and other technical methods.
    • Follows well-established work methods but uses independent judgment to resolve problems.
    • Prepares reagents and performs reliability testing; prepares internal standard, calibrant and quality control solutions; and operates laboratory instrumentation (balances, gas chromatographs, spectrophotometers, mass spectrometers and liquid chromatographs) for the collection of data in support of performance verification, method validation, and reference material verification.
    • Performs procedures consisting of a large number of precise steps for gathering reliable data.
    • Prepares laboratory samples for analysis by using methods such as grinding, filtration, centrifugation, thin-section cutting and polishing, blending, and splitting. Selects appropriate test procedures for a number of different sample types and matrices. Applies various metallurgical, instrumental, and wet chemistry analysis procedures.
    • Uses equipment to take readings, and records and analyzes data, noting the presence of inconsistencies in the results. Sets up, adjusts, and maintains instrumentation to ensure proper functioning.
    • Operates analytical instruments, such as balances, gas chromatographs, spectrophotometers, mass spectrometers, and liquid chromatographs, to carry out recurring quantitative or qualitative analyses.
    • Maintains detailed laboratory records such as computer database observation records, graphical representations, and spreadsheets showing calculations from laboratory data.



    • Bachelor's Degree and five years of relevant experience.
    • The ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.
    • Must be a US Citizen.
